Magnetic Sign Care & Installation Tips

Properly caring for your magnetic signs will extend their lifespan.

WARNING: Although we use vehicle grade magnetic sign material, with strong adhesion properties, if not maintained or installed properly does run the risk of flying off your vehicle. Failure to adhere to the following instructions could result in possible loss of your magnetic signs.

BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR MAGNETIC SIGNS PLEASE NOTE:

• Magnetic sign material is a flexible substrate and needs to COMPLETELY FLAT on your vehicle. For shipping purposes we roll our magnetic signs so when you receive them we suggest that you let the magnetic signs completely flatten before installing them on your vehicle. This can be achieved one of two ways:
  • Option 1: Lay the magnetic signs on a flat surface and place a few heavy books on the signs, especially the corners, for a few hours. If the corners of the magnetic signs are not touching your vehicle upon installation...DO NOT INSTALL UNTIL THE WHOLE SIGN LAYS FLAT ON YOUR VEHICLE!
  • Option 2: Test the signs out on a magnetic receptive surface (i.e. your car, a metal cabinet or a refrigerator door). If the sign does not lay flat on the surface, refer to Option One above before installing the signs.

PROPERLY PREPARE THE SURFACE OF THE CAR AND YOUR MAGNETIC SIGNS:

• Vehicles that have recently been painted, waxed or have had a clear coat applied to the surface need to make sure that the surface has completely cured (hardened) before installing any magnetic signs. Curing times are as follows:
  • Paint –  90 days
  • Clear Coat –  60 days
  • Wax –  2 days
• Make sure that both the vehicle surface and the back of the magnetic sign are clean. Both can be cleaned by utilizing a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Simply wash and dry both surfaces and allow to air dry before installation.

PROPER MAGNETIC SIGN APPLICATION:

• MAKE SURE that the magnetic sign ALWAYS LAYS FLAT against your vehicle (including the corners).
• NEVER apply your magnetic sign over any raised portions of your vehicle (i.e. molding; concaves; extreme vehicle body curvatures; door handles or emblems.) Also never apply a magnetic sign over a door jam. All the aforementioned installation scenarios can create an air pocket which may cause the signs to fly off.
  
  • PLEASE NOTE: We are not responsible for fly-offs due to the improper installation methods mentioned here.
• DO NOT apply magnetic signs to any vehicles that have non-metallic body fillers (bondo), simulated wood grain siding, aluminum paneling or repainted surfaces.
• ALWAYS test the vehicle surface for receptivity. To do this take a refrigerator magnet and place it on the car...if it stays in place, the surface is magnetic receptive; if it doesn't stick, then your magnetic sign won't either. And again, we can't stress enough to affix your magnetic sign to a  smooth, flat metal surface.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAGNETIC SIGNS

• Whether you are repeatedly taking your signs on and off the vehicle, or leaving them on for long periods of time, there will inevitably be a buildup of dirt and moisture between the magnetic sign and the vehicle surface. To guard against these two naturally occurring instances we suggest cleaning both sides of the sign, and the vehicle surface, weekly with a mild detergent or by wiping clean with a soft cloth . Dirt and moisture build-up can lead to fly-offs, so regularly cleaning your signs and vehicle, will help keep  the signs in good shape and on your vehicle.
  • PLEASE NOTE: REMOVE SIGNS BEFORE WASHING YOUR CAR; UTILIZING A CAR WASH; OR ANY POWER WASHES!
