What does writing a Yelp review do for businesses?

yelpTypically when it comes to the popular reviewing app Yelp most people think restaurants. Myself and others I know tend to quickly run to their Yelp apps before trying out a new restaurant in their neighborhood or when traveling abound. Yelp reviews of the restaurant business give you a great insight as to what to expect from a dining establishment which can either be pro or con depending on each individual diner. But with the advent of time Yelp reviews have started being very valid for all sorts of non-restaurant businesses.

In this technologically savvy day and age we live in most companies are very active on the social media scene and maintain pages on various popular websites like Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, etc. A lot of businesses have jumped on the Yelp train as well because they feel that it is an asset to be part of the Yelp review service as another way to be noticed and scene among their competitors.

Just like with Yelp restaurant reviews, Yelp business reviews, give the masses a chance to preview a business before making a decision whether to utilize their services or buy products from a particular business. Because sometimes what looks like a well-run company in person or online may in fact have horrible service and produce crappy products. And you won't know until you do business with them. And this is where Yelp business reviews help consumers make a well-educated choice before pulling the trigger.

Good Yelp Business Reviews:

Yelp business reviews that are of the positive nature and award the business with a 5 star rating are the best to receive. Four star Yelp reviews are good as well but a five star Yelp review gives the company a higher standing on the system itself. Five star reviews boost a business up to the top to vie with their peers. And while most positive Yelp reviews garner a four star rating, if you really liked the company and their services and have an overall great experience, then by all means give that company all five stars.

Good Yelp business reviews really help a company gauge their customer satisfaction rate and can also boost morale. Your good Yelp business review can be broad or detailed. But details go along way, especially when describing the quality of product or how helpful your sales representative was. Even the most minor praise can go along way for company morale and overall productivity.

Bad Yelp Business Reviews:

And then there is the other end of the Yelp review spectrum....the dreaded Bad Yelp Business Review. Poor customer service, cheap products inaccessibility or unresponsiveness, as well as, price versus product inequality can all be thrown out into the light. Your company may have great customer service and poor products or execution of service at a great price; or vice versa, awesome products and pricing but poor service. This is where the consumer gets to put your short-comings on blast. And in the effort of trying to run a respectable business no company wants a bad review and might do best to keep from getting them.

But in the overall scheme of free market a bad Yelp review, while at first might seem like a horrendous slight, could end up benefiting a company that truly wants to better itself. Whether it's a staff issue, product issue, communication issue (or lack there-of) or pricing issue leaving a bad Yelp review also clues a company into their weak points thus spurring the opportunity to correct situations that could be hurting their business.

Start getting your Yelp on:

If you don't already have your own Yelp account I highly recommend downloading the free app and starting your Yelp journey. If you are already on Yelp, make yourself heard and remember to leave Yelp reviews on active businesses you utilize, whether good or bad. Your opinion, just like your vote, counts when it comes to the free market. Speak up and praise those companies that served you well so others can rest easy utilizing the same company; or if warranted, air your grievances with services rendered and possibly save another consumer from a bad business transaction.
